Special emphasis will be placed on the multicultural origins of American popular and material culture, such as foodways and entertainment, and on the experience of "Americanization." Explores the relationship between various forms of art, such as painting, photography or architecture and the cultures of the United States past and present. AMST428B American Cultural Eras: American Film Culture in the 1960's; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisite: a course in one of the following -- AMST, film, twentieth-century American history, ARTH, or SOCY. Investigating the interaction between the film medium and an era of significant cultural change, the course will emphasize: 1) institutional factors; 2) Hollywood genres; 3) documentaries and experimental observation and reform.
