The creation of images of male and female, and masculine and feminine, through communication, the differences in male and female communication behaviors and styles, and the implications of those images and styles for male-female transactions. Emphasis is placed on the nature of rhetoric per se and the theoretical problems which gave rise to its development within both periods.
