Basic techniques and the use of various media of graphic communication associated with landscape architecture. LARC160 Introduction to Landscape Architecture; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. CORE Humanities (HO) Course. USP Distributive Studies Area C: Literature and the Arts Course. History, theory, philosophy and current practice of the profession of landscape architecture. Explores the interactive relationship between humans and their environment by examining people's perceptions of and changing attitude towards the landscape, as well as, an examination of how these are related to ecological and cultural influences. LARC220 Land Surveying; (2 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. For LARC majors only. Formerly LARC 200. Principles of land surveying such as measurements of distance, elevation and angles, instrumentation and mapping. LARC240 Graphic Communications; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisites: LARC 141 and LARC 160. For LARC majors only. Formerly LARC 260. Exploration of graphic presentation techniques for landscape architectural planning and design documents. LARC320 Principles of Site Engineering; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisites: LARC 220 and LARC 241. For LARC majors only. Also offered as HORT 320. Formerly LARC 364. The study and application of landscape construction principles as applied to grading, drainage, layout, vehicular and pedestrian circulation. LARC341 Community Design Studio; (4 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisite: LARC 241. For LARC majors only. Formerly LARC 361. Examines the landscape architect's role within the community and neighborhood context by utilizing community analysis, user and community factors in design, master-plan design process, site design, report writing and presentation. LARC420 Professional Practice; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisite: LARC 321. For LARC majors only. Formerly LARC 467. An introduction to and comparative study of the professional concerns of design firms. Focus on planning, legal, ethical, marketing and management considerations of interdisciplinary practices. LARC440 Urban Studio Design; (4 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisites: LARC 321, and LARC 340, and LARC 341. For LARC majors only. Formerly LARC 462. The landscape architect's role within the interdisciplinary urban design process, focusing on urban site design issues. Pedestrian friendly site design and the future of sustainable development will be studied. LARC450 Environmental Resources; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisite: AGRO 202 or permission of department. A review of ecosystems and an examination of planning strategies for preservation, conservation, management and development of sensitive natural and cultural landscape resources in the mid-Atlantic region. Also offered as URSP 688E. Four day-long Friday field trips are required. LARC470 Landscape Architecture Seminar; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Prerequisites: LARC 321 and LARC 341. For LARC majors only. A combination of self-directed study, seminar, and lecture formats. An introduction to aspects of research methods, critical analysis, and proposal writing. Students will identify a topic to research, conduct a literature review and prepare a proposal for a landscape architecture project to be carried out in LARC 471. LARC499 Independent Studies in Landscape Architecture; (1-4 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Individual Instruction course: contact department or instructor to obtain section number. |
