Introduction to news for the print and electronic media, development of new concepts: laboratory in news-gathering tools and writing skills. The TSWE is administered monthly according to a schedule posted in JRN 1117. A proficiency test for applicability of JOUR 201 credit taken at another institution will be given by registering in JRN 1117. All students in Jour 201 must have earned a minimum of 28 credits. A 5-minute wordprocessing (WordPerfect) test must be taken prior to receiving permission to register. Typing tests will be offered every Friday afternoon in 1117 Journalism Building.

This writing and seminar-style course deals with opinion writing, in columns, editorials and interpretive pieces. Writing and management of editorial pages for newspapers are the primary focus but the course is useful in commentary for magazine, broadcast and online journalism.
