BUMO Management and Organization ( The Robert H. Smith School of Business)Any remaining seats in BUMO courses will be available to the following groups of students: Students admitted/graduates of UMCP master or PhD program and students admitted/graduates of an AACSB-accredited masters program. Students outside the department should contact the Smith School of Business Masters Program Office starting the first day of registration for specific instructions on how to request a BUMO course. Requests for courses will be reviewed approximately two weeks before the start of the semester. For all course sections with GS, class will be held at the Shady Grove Campus. For all course sections with DC, class will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building/International Trade Center. For all course sections with BA, class will be held at the UMAB School of Nursing. For weekend courses, students are responsible for checking their schedule for course conflicts. If a student is registered for weekend courses that conflict, the student should make adjustments to their schedule. If changes are not made, the department can drop the course that was last added to cause the conflict.

BUMO714 Executive Power and Negotiation; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: BMGT 764 or BUMO 714. Formerly BMGT764. Negotiations knowledge and skills through a series of readings (the use of power during bargaining exchanges, principles of effective listening, and bargaining strategies and tactics) and through the opportunity to practice negotiating. Non-majors should review their registration eligibility in the statement preceding the BUMO courses. BUMO725 Networks and Influence; (2 credits) Grade Method: REG/AUD. For MBA majors only. Focuses on networks, social capital, and influence as they relate to operating effectively in organizations. It draws heavily on emerging literature related to social capital and networks, but also integrates concepts from persuasion, communication, and motivation literatures to aid your efforts to build a successful track record for yourself and your organization. BUMO732 New Venture Creation; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG. Prerequisite: completion of MBA core requirements or permission of department. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: BMGT 780 or BUMO 732. Formerly BMGT780. Creating new ventures, including evaluating the entrepreneurial team, the opportunity and financing requirements. Skills, concepts, attitudes and know-how relevant for creating and building a venture; and preparation of a business plan. These approaches are not limited to new or growing enterprises. Non-majors should review their registration eligibility in the statement preceding the BUMO courses. Students must have over 21 credits to take this course. BUMO751 Implementing Strategy: Organizing to Compete; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG. Prerequisite: completion of the MBA core requirements or permission of department. Corequisite: BUSI 690. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: BMGT 767 or BUMO 751. Formerly BMGT767. Organizational dynamics of competitive advantage. Impact of alternative organizational structures, planning and control systems, human resource management practices, and executive leadership styles on the implementation of archetypically different strategies. Non-majors should review their registration eligibility in the statement preceding the BUMO courses. BUMO752 Strategic Growth for Emerging Companies; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG. For MBA majors only. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: BMGT 791 and BUMO 752. Formerly BMGT791. Explores the key elements of mastering the move from being a successful small company to achieving industry significance. Supplemented by readings, video and guest speakers, the course highlights the application of practical lessons leading to strategic growth and subsequentemergence as a player. Non-majors should review their registration eligibility in the statement preceding the BUMO courses. BUMO754 Global Strategy; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG. Corequisite: BUSI 690. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: BMGT 795 or BUMO 754. Formerly BMGT795. The problems and policies of international business enterprise at the management level. Management of a multinational enterprise as well as management within foreign units. The multinational firm as a socio-econometric institution. Cases in comparative management. Non-majors should review their registration eligibility in the statement preceding the BUMO courses. BUMO756 Industry and Competitor Analysis; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG. Recommended: BUSI 690. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: BMGT 792 or BUMO 756. Formerly BMGT792. This industry and competitor analysis seminar provides students with the conceptual framework and analytical tools for understanding the dynamics of industry structure and how competitors actually interact in the marketplace. An understanding of the dynamics of competition and industry evolution is an important input in the development of an effective competitive strategy. BUMO758D Special Topics in Management and Organization: Social Entrepreneurship; (2 credits) Grade Method: REG. BUMO758E Special Topics in Management and Organization: Entrepreneurial Exit Strategies; (2 credits) Grade Method: REG.
