Characteristics and needs of individuals receiving special education and related services. Current issues and practices in special education. EDSP376 Fundamentals of Sign Language; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. Receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language. Examination of the causes of deafness, characteristics of deaf education, and aspects of the culture of the deaf community. EDSP413 Behavior and Classroom Management in Special Education; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/AUD. For EDSP or 0808P majors only. Also offered as EDSP613. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: EDSP321, EDSP413, or EDSP613. Formerly EDSP321. Use of applied behavior analysis for assessment of behavior and learning environments. Design of behavior and classroom management of students in special education. EDSP415 Assessment in Special Education; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/AUD. Recommended: STAT100 or SOCY201. Knowledge and skills for understanding assessment process and interpretation of assessment data. Emphasis on psychometric aspects of assessment related to screening, eligibility, and program planning. EDSP421 (PermReq) Field Placement III: Early Childhood Special Education; (2-3 credits) Grade Method: REG. For EDSP or 0808P majors only. Students must reserve three half-days per week for field experience in early childhood special education. Field experience I in early childhood special education. Students without the required pre- or corequisites can register for this course with departmental approval. Open to special education graduate students only for this term. EDSP678E Seminar in Special Education: Social Communication Challenges and Strategies for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/AUD. EDSP678T Seminar in Special Education: Infants & Toddlers with Disabilities-Medical & Genetic Implications; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/AUD. Explores the medical and genetic implications associated with infants and toddlers with disabilities.
