GERM103 Intensive Elementary German; (4 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD.
Not open to students who have completed GERM101, GERM102, more than two years of high school German, or to fluent/native speakers of German. Credit will be granted for only one of the following: GERM102 or GERM103. Covers speaking, reading, writing, listening, and culture of German-speaking world.

A visual approach to German literature through a study of the historical, cultural, and literary significance of German films. Representative examples from the golden age of German silent films to the new German cinema. Taught in English. This course will meet in the non-print media room in Hornbake Library.

GERM299A Fashion as an Expression of German Culture; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD. CORE History or Theory of Arts (HA) Course. CORE Diversity (D) Course.
A survey of the role of dress as a social indicator of hierarchy and gender throughout the course of cultural history in German-speaking countries. Course materials include literary and visual references from the eighteenth century to present, as well as a variety of film excerpts. Taught in English.
